It will be a top three clash in the Barclays Premier League as title rivals Liverpool and Man City clash at the Anfield on Sunday, the 13th of April 2014.

Preview: Liverpool host City in potential title decider

The outcome of the match could verily decide who runs away with the Premier League title this season with only five matches left to play. Whereas Chelsea will remain in the mix of things Liverpool and Man City both have been in ravishing form as of late and have remained undefeated in their last five matches.

Liverpool in particular have been nothing short of spectacular and have won all of their last nine games in the Premier League. Much of their good form has been inspired from their magnificent strike duo of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge who share 49 goals between them in the league.

Suarez in particular has been incredible this season, with five games more to play the Uruguayan just needs three more goals to overtake the record of 31 goals scored in a 38 match Premier League format, a record which is jointly held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Alan Shearer. The 27 year olds goal scoring antics have allowed Liverpool to overtake the Citizens in goal scoring charts with the Merseyside outfit boasting a commendable 90 goals in the 33 matches they have played.

However much for their goal scoring exploits, it is Man City who have a better goal difference and should the league finish on level points the Etihad side will have the advantage. Last time Liverpool won a league title was back in 1990 and Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to write his name in history by becoming the first manager to guide Liverpool to the league summit in the Premier League era. Ahead of the match the former Swansea tactician insisted that his side is under no pressure and has urged his troops to maintain their good form in the title defining match against City.

"We have no nerves, we have been enjoying it this week, and there has been a great feeling around the training ground this week,” he told reporters.

"It's vitally important to keep our cool and calm. We showed that last weekend with great composure when decisions went against us at West Ham.

"For us it's exciting, we have been building to get where we are and we are looking to sustain it in the longer period.”

Liverpool have lost just once at Anfield this season and Rodgers is hopeful that the Kop faithful will once again guide the Reds towards an important victory.

“The great beauty is we are at home and we have a great record here - we will unleash the supporters yet again," he said.

"I get a sense of the old days around the place, and we will always respect and embrace our past. It has allowed us to make Anfield such a difficult place to come and we will use that.”

Man City on the other hand after a few hiccups down the road are once again back on track and should the Citizens win all their remaining matches, no one can stop them from lifting the Premier League title. With an almost perfect home record in the league which has seen them lose only once, City have massively improved their away form and are unbeaten on the road since a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland in November.

The Citizens have been quite resilient at the back too and have conceded just twice in their last seven Premier League games. In their last outing, Man City thrashed Southampton at the Etihad Stadium subjecting the Saints to a 4-1 defeat. City’s standout player of the season Yaya Toure scored his 18th goal of the season and along with Luis Suarez is a major contender for the PFA Player of the season award.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will also be boosted by the potential return of talismanic striker Sergio Aguero. The Argentinean had been arguably as good as Luis Suarez earlier in the season but injuries have hampered not just his goal scoring record but his form as well. His manager Pellegrini has expressed his delight upon Aguero’s return to the squad and has maintained that it will be very difficult for the Liverpool defense to contain him.

"Sergio is OK. He worked all week with the squad normally, so he doesn't have any problem," Pellegrini confirmed.

"It's very important [to have Aguero back]. He's a top player. It's very difficult for their defence to stop him and so it's very important for us."

Both managers will have minimal injury headaches for the important match on Sunday. Daniel Agger who missed last weekend’s win over West Ham returns to the squad and is poised to start the match. However long term absentee Jose Enrique will continue to remain on the sidelines.

Yaya Toure has recovered from the knock he suffered in the match against Southampton last week and will feature in the title defining clash on Sunday, but defender Matija Nastasic (knee) has been ruled out.
