Preview: Liverpool expected to hammer the hosts
The Hammers have been floating in the middle of the Premier League standings, waiting to break into the top half at the expense of Stoke City against whom they lost 3-1 in mid-March.
However, Liverpool have been invincible in 2014. Not only are they yet to lose a league match this year but they have also picked maximum points in each of their last eight encounters. The last team to steal points away from the Reds was West Bromwich Albion on February 2nd. Kolo Toure was to blame as an horrific error in defence allowed Victor Anichebe to cancel Daniel Sturridge’s first-half opener.
Brendan Rodgers’ men have picked themselves up since then. They bounced back with an emphatic 5-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield and narrowly edged Fulham and Swansea City in goal-fest encounters. Manchester United, and more recently Tottenham Hotspur, are among the teams to have suffered under the red hot form of Liverpool in March.
West Ham United could be next, as Brendan Rodgers believes that Liverpool are not going to put their foot off the pedal in April. With 71 points and six matches left on their agenda, they are genuine title contenders competing against the likes of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea and favourites Manchester City.
“We feel that we can win any game, because we are a team,” Brendan Rodgers stated after Liverpool’s big win over Spurs.
“We are a team we may not have the best group of individuals but we have a lot of hunger in a team.”
