It will be a top four clash in the Mexican Apertura as leaders Cruz Azul take on fourth placed América at the Estadio Azteca on Saturday, the 5th of April 2014.

Preview: Los Cementeros hoping to stretch their lead on the top

Cruz Azul will be hoping to maintain their place on top of the table when they face arch rivals América in what is expected to be a fierce encounter.

The last five meetings between the two sides have yielded mixed results, Cruz Azul have emerged victorious once, America  twice whereas the other two encounters including the most recent one ended with the scores leveled at 1-1.

America will have momentum on their side having scored a morale boosting 4-0 victory over rivals Guadalajara last time out. Rey scored a brace for Los Azulcremas in the first half and the lead was doubled in the second half with goals from Jiménez and Mendoza. Los Millonetas  have however performed poorly at home this season having won just three of the seven matches they have played at Estadio Azteca this season.

Cruz Azul on the other hand despite being on top of the table will be concerned with their recent performances. Las Liebres have lost both their last two matches in all competitions. A 3-1 loss at the hands of Atlas was followed by a 1-0 defeat against Club Tijuana in CCL to round off a disappointing week for Antonio Mohamed’s men. Cruz Azul will be looking for inspiration from their top scorer Marco Fabián who has scored seven goals in 12 appearances this season.
