Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has stated his expectations of Barcelona ahead of the two respective side's clash in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday. The Argentine boss says he believes his side will face the "best Barcelona", expressing that it will be a very difficult encounter for the Madrid side.
The Champions League quarter-finals pairs La Liga's top two sides against one another; Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Barcelona will be looking to settle the first leg match, in the Camp Nou, and carry an advantageous aggregate before the two sides meet again in the Vicente Calderon Stadium in Madrid.
The Catalan side enter the competition on a high as a string of good results against Real Madrid, Celta Vigo and Espanyol have seen Barcelona climb to second spot in the La Liga standings. However, with all the Blaugrana's momentum, Simeone still refuses to label his side “the underdogs”, nor favorites, when heading into this matchup.
“Barcelona are in top shape. They are used to these kind of matches," said Simeone.
"The match will be very difficult. The two teams meet in a great moment. I expect the best Barcelona, they will want to settle it here, in their home stadium and not wait for the return leg.”
He also added: "If we say we are favorites, they will say that we are arrogant. If not, they will say that we are underdogs. What is certain is that we are going to compete and that it will be a beautiful tie."
