If it was a different referee, odds are Marouane Fellaini would have seen RED during Manchester United's heated encounter versus Manchester City at Old Trafford on March 25th after violently elbowing City's Paulo Zabaleta.

But despite Michael Oliver showing the midfielder the benefit of the doubt and only brandishing a yellow, the Belgian may yet find himself in hot soup as the FA has confirmed it is looking into a footage of an incident involving the duo in which Fellaini appeared to spit on the defender as he lay on the ground in pain after their initial contact.

United manager David Moyes appeared to realize the folly of keeping the former Everton man on the pitch as he promptly took him off for Valencia on 66 minutes.

Should the FA find him guilty, Fellaini will get the 3-match suspension that was probably due to him in the first instance.
