The victory against Fiorentina on Wednesday was Milan’s first since suffering four consecutive defeats in all competitions and drawing 1-1 away to Lazio last weekend. Clarence Seedorf needed this and so did Rossoneri fans worldwide.

The win was marked by a moment of class from none other than Mario Balotelli in the 64th minute. Coach Seedorf was left to say in the aftermath of the game:

“I asked Mario for intensity and in that sense he had a great game in both phases. We already knew he had talent and could take free kicks like that, but I was most impressed by his consistency and intensity.”

However, if you couldn’t notice it in the GIF above, there was something particularly curious about Balotelli’s sumptuous goal. It was the fact that Alessandro Matri, who is currently on loan at Fiorentina from AC Milan, ran away as Super Mario launched his rocket.

Was Matri trying to avoid getting hit really hard? In any case, he certainly did Milan a huge favour.
