Liverpool continue to chase their title dreams as they welcome Sunderland to the Anfield on Wednesday, the 26th of March.

Preview: Reds hoping to narrow gap on top of the table

A win on Wednesday could allow Liverpool to reduce the difference between them and Chelsea to just one point and with the two sides yet to play at Anfield this season Liverpool will definitely be confident of clinching their first league title in over 20 years.

The Reds were involved in yet another goal frenzy as their last outing against Cardiff resulted in nine goals scored with Liverpool scoring six of these. The Reds went down 2-1 to the Bluebirds courtesy of goals from Jordon Mutch and Fraizer Campbell in the first half but Liverpool responded strongly and put any hopes of a comeback to rest.

Premier League’s top scorer Luis Suarez was once again influential as his team recorded a very important victory. The Uruguayan was at the top of his game and rounded off an excellent outing with a hat-trick taking his goal tally to 28 for the season.

The former Ajax man was delighted upon another strong performance by the Merseyside outfit, but ensured that the players will remain calm in the coming weeks and keep hoping for a title win.

"We are in a really good moment now," Suarez said.

"We know that in the last few games we have played very well and that's why I am so happy with this performance. We will keep calm, because we know the Premier League is so difficult.

"We'll keep going for the next game and all the focus will be on having a really good game against Sunderland. We knew the Chelsea result, but we focused and concentrated on our game. We knew that we had played very well in the last few games."

The 27 year old compared the match against Cardiff to that against Stoke a few weeks back and insisted that the team will carry the good form to their next match against Sunderland.

"It was an unbelievable match. It was like the result against Stoke City away from home, when it was 5-3. It's difficult when you score and then Cardiff score at the other end, but we played very well today and we'll keep going for next week."

Brendan Rodgers' men have announced themselves as serious contenders for the league title and are currently on a six match win streak having scored 24 goals in the process. The Reds have shown the grit required to win a title and have proven to be very difficult to beat in the recent weeks.

Sunderland on the other hands have contrasting ambitions and will be desperate to get themselves out of the bottom three. The Black Cats are winless in their last four Premier League games and will be hoping to get atleast a draw in their upcoming match, a task which will be colossal given the terrorizing goal scoring form their counterparts are currently in.

Their last two matches were against fellow strugglers Norwich and Crystal Palace, with Gus Poyet’s men failing to score in both the outings. With only nine points separating the bottom nine teams Sunderland still have a strong chance of remaining in the Premier League next season also considering the fact that the Black Cats have a game in hand which is to be played against West Ham.

Last time the two sides met marked the return of Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan served his eight match ban early in the season. The 27 year old made an instant impact scoring twice in the match to guide his side to a 3-1 win.

Rodgers will have the luxury of choosing from an almost injury free squad with the likes of Lucas and Mamadou Sakho having returned to the squad and the two are expected to play a vital role as the Reds push for the title.

Fabio Borini on loan from Liverpool will not be eligible to line up against his parent club. Marcos Alonso on the other hand will serve suspension after receiving a red card in the match against Norwich with Jack Colback expected to be moved to left back.

Goalkeeper Kerien Westwood will also remain sidelined whereas Steven Fletcher and Valentin Roberge are also major doubts for the trip to Liverpool.
