Up ahead of everyone, late during the season, is Mourinho’s Chelsea. Mouinho’s sides are rarely defined by their playing styles. Yet, they are all designed by one central policy. David Luiz, the brilliant but slightly inconsistent Brazilian, is out for Chelsea along with the evergreen Ashley Cole. Marco Van Ginkel of course is not ready for action just yet after his injury. Fernando Torres is a slight doubt. Aston Villa meanwhile has a slightly longer injury list. Libor Kozak, Charles N’ Zogbia and Jores Okore are all out for Villa. Ryan Bertrand is ineligible due to his Chelsea ties. Chris Herd has been granted personal leave until further notice.

Mourinho will of course field an altered side, perhaps a weaker side, as his team awaits Galatasaray in the Champions League this week. The teams are level on aggregate after the first leg and Mourinho will definitely want his charges to progress to the following round.

Aston Villa thumped Norwich, 4-1 in their previous match while Chelsea, somewhat comically, managed to strike four times against Tottenham’s back four to win 4-0. When Villa and Chelsea met in August 2013, they played an entertaining match. An own goal from Antonio Luna saw Villa fall behind within the opening four minutes but Christian Benteke’s equalizer at the halfway point saved his blushes. Branislav Ivanovic scored after the 70th minute to deny Villla taking any points from this one.
