Wolfsburg takes on Bayern in a blockbuster Bundesliga clash. Wolfsburg is coming into this match on the back of an unexpected thrashing at the hands of Hoffenheim.

Preview: Can Dieter Hecking’s overcome table topping Bayern München?

Pep Guardiola’s side remains the envy of Europe, especially Germany. Nobody has been able to match Bayern in the Bundesliga this season. Only Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen (albeit in slightly lucky fashion) have been able to take a point each off of them. The Champions-elect will take on a team which was largely tipped to be this season’s dark horse. Wolfsburg has the money and the players. They are approaching a top four position. Nonetheless, they are not there just yet.

In the last match, they were shockingly defeated by a youthful Hoffenheim side, 6-2. Bayern’s attack has been scoring goals for fun this season; a leaky defense is definitely cause for concern for Hecking, especially as he is a coach who bases his tactics on strong organization at the back. Die Wolfe will be hoping to give a better account of themselves this time than they did in their previous match.

They will be without Christian Träsch in this one; Träsch was red carded about ten minutes from the end in their previous match. They will also be without the suspended Luiz Gustavo and the injured Vierinha. Meanwhile, Bayern will be without Holger Badstuber. Otherwise, Pep Guardiola has a full squad to choose from.

Bayern took on Schalke last weekend of course and absolutely battered them. A full two minutes had not passed when David Alaba’s freekick saw the ball deflect off the Schalke wall, deceive Ralf Fahrmann and sail into the back of the net. Within 28 minutes, Bayern had put four past Schalke. In the second half, the team slowed down as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos decided to control the tempo and play out the match. Schalke did get one back courtesy of a Rafinha error. However, at the other end, a serious foul by Kyriakos Papadopoulos saw Bayern earn a penalty which Robben converted.

Now, it will be Wolfsburg’s turn to tame Bayern. Can they cause Die Roten some headaches? Or will they be cast aside as well?
