Newly-crowned 2013/14 Football League Cup champions Manchester City will welcome Wigan Athletic at the Etihad Stadium on Friday, March 9, 2014.

Man City vs Wigan - FA CupPreview: The hurdle preceding the Camp Nou mission

This is perfect chance for Manchester City to boost their confidence ahead of next week’s crucial matchup against FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the UEFA Champions League. The Citizens need to turn around a 2-0 deficit in what will appear to be their most important game of the season.

However, while they dream about surviving in Europe, Man City are also thinking about qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2013/14 English FA Cup. They are clear favourites against underdogs Wigan but the latter will want to try their luck and do what Sunderland couldn’t in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley last Sunday.

With the Barca clash in mind, Manuel Pellegrini will not want his star men to be mentally and physically exhausted. The Citizens might try to score an early goal and finish the game just rolling the ball around to frustrate the Latics.

On the other hand, they might go for the kill as coach Pellegrini insisted before the game:

“I look to every competition with the same importance. On Sunday we have to play in the FA Cup, so we will think about the FA Cup.”
