You cannot rule out England’s chances of lifting the World Cup in Brazil, says Jose Mourinho. He told the press on Wednesday:

“England? Everybody says 'no, no, no, no, no'. I always say 'why not?' because I don't understand why not. When I see the players and the clubs where they play, I don't understand why one day it cannot happen.

“They know how to play for the big clubs, they play in the Champions League, which is probably the most difficult football in the world, so I don't see why they don't win. So one day they have to do it.”

Out of these players, Roy Hodgson will form his 2014 World Cup squad

The Chelsea boss, who manages the likes of Frank Lampard and Tim Cahill, believes that the Three Lions might devour one of the two other giants – Uruguay or Italy – in the group stages and possibly march all the way to glory.

“I don't think Uruguay and Italy will find it easy to play against England. The first defeat will put immediately one team in a very difficult situation.”

Meanwhile, England’s four teams in the UEFA Champions League Last 16 all failed to record victory. Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United each lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Olympiakos Piraeus respectively. Chelsea were the only ones to avoid defeat. Still, they failed to win as they played out a 1-1 draw against Galatasaray in Istanbul.
