Preview: Big ‘La Decima’ test in Germany for Los Blancos

Tickets for the Last 8 of the UEFA Champions League are at stake and Real Madrid are hoping to grab them but so do Schalke. Jens Keller affirmed in the build up to the showdown:

“We can't play without showing bravery. We have to find a balance between defence and attack.

“There is no doubt that Real Madrid has an incredible team, but we're not that bad. It all depends on how the team plays as a whole.”

The return of Cristiano Ronaldo and his duel with former Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could largely impact the game. Carlo Ancelotti gave his take, stating:

“In order to win here we have to give it our all. We have to play with a lot of intensity because Schalke will try everything in their power to beat us.”

He added:

“At the moment things are going well, but all the matches are dangerous. We don't want this good streak to end and we have to continue as we are.”

It should be hard for pundits to rule out Schalke’s chances of reaching the quarter-finals. Although the German club cannot compare itself to Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund, they have a big advantage by the unique fact that they are Germans. And like history prove it, Los Blancos suffer from some kind of Germanophobia. Real Madrid’s record on German soil reads:

Will they choke again on Wednesday night? Well, Carlo Ancelotti has not tasted defeat in any of his last nine encounters against a German team. Madridistas will hope that he adds more to the three wins and six draws he picked up while in charge of AC Milan.
