Top four hopefuls Tottenham will take on relegation favourites Norwich City at the Carrow Road in a Premier League encounter on Sunday, the 23rd of February.

Preview: Tottenham looking for third straight league win

Spurs have pulled off some impressive showings in the league recently and aim to displace Liverpool from the top four with only three points separating the two sides. After being subjected to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Man City at the White Hart Lane, Tottenham have responded well and are undefeated in league games in the last three matches.

In their last Premier League outing the Lilywhites produced a splendid performance defeating Newcastle by a 4-0 score line and will be hoping to make a repeat of that.

However things did not go well for the North London side during Thursday’s encounter against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, with the Ukrainian side subjecting Sherwood’s men to a 1-0 loss.

Dnipro ‘s head coach Juande Ramos who has managed Tottenham in the past took a snipe at his former club questioning their ambition and has also claimed that the North London side are not capable of challenging for the title.

"Spurs sold Gareth Bale in the summer and with the 100 million euros they have signed five or six players. They will see if any of those players take off and then maybe sell them on and reinvest: that’s the business plan,” said Ramos.

"It works well but you have to ask the question: what are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to win money or titles? The sporting side is the priority at Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.”

"Why aren’t Spurs going to win the league? Because they are always a small stepbelow those three or four teams. Economically it works well but in sporting terms it needs a slight tuning. What are you chasing? Titles or economic success?"

Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood on the other hand will be looking for a swift response from his side. The former England midfielder does have history on his side with Norwich just managing a single victory against their counterparts in the last 10 Premier League meetings which came back in April 2012 at the White Hart Lane. Tottenham are also undefeated against Canaries in their last six league meetings at Carrow Road winning four and drawing two of their matches.

And Tottenham will definitely be in a buoyant mood ahead of the fixture having produced exceptional performances under Tim Sherwood. Since the Englishman took over from Andre Villas-Boas in December, only Chelsea have collected more points than the North London side during the period.
Norwich on the other hand have been ineffective in front of the goal despite of boasting the likes of Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Gary Hooper upfront. The Yellows have scored just five goals in their last 11 league matches and will be desperate to get some this time in order to distance themselves from the relegation zone. Sunderland’s 4-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal means that Norwich will end this week out of the bottom three but must be wary about the fact that the black cats have a match in hand.

Hughton could welcome back midfielder Jonny Howson who has recovered from a back injury he suffered back in December. However centre back duo Ryan Bennett and Michael Turner remained sidelined for the match whereas wingers Jonas Gutierrez and Elliott Bennett will also miss the home fixture against Spurs.

For Tottenham midfielder Sandro will continue to nurse his calf injury whereas Erik Lamela and Vlad Chiriches have been both ruled out with a back injury. Jermain Defoe could feature in his last match for Tottenham before he moves to MLS side Toronto FC but his participation in the match is a doubt as the 31 year old recovers from a hamstring injury.
