New league leaders Chelsea will make a visit to the Hawthorns where they face a West Brom side which has been struggling as of late.

Chelsea will play away to West Brom.Preview: Chelsea hoping to extend lead at the top

With Arsenal set to be involved in another difficult fixture as they go against defending champions Manchester United, Mourinho and Chelsea will be hoping to take advantage by further extending their lead at the top. With both the second and the third team in the Barclays Premier League set to play on Wednesday, a victory tonight could see the Blues distance themselves from their title rivals by four to five points.

Last time out a rampant Chelsea side scored an impressive victory over Newcastle United subjecting the magpies to a 3-0 defeat. The victory at Stamford Bridge came a week after Chelsea became the only English club this season to defeat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The standout performer during that night was Belgian star Eden Hazard who followed his impressive showing against the Citizens with a hat trick against Newcastle.

His manager Jose Mourinho showered his Belgian star with praise and acclaimed the 23 year old of being a ‘big player’.

"He's a tremendous young guy, so special," said Mourinho. "He's a family guy, he's married with kids, and he's very stable.

"Hazard is more strong physically and mentally. He likes to win and he accepts the responsibility of being a big player."

The Portuguese tactician further played down the chances of his team being crowned the league champions despite being on the top and instead expressed his concerns of potentially dropping out of the top four.

"It won't be disappointing if we don't finish top. I will be disappointed if my team can't keep this level," he told reporters.

"If we don't win tomorrow [at West Brom] it's not just about the title contenders [going above us], it's about Spurs and Everton closing the gap.

"Do I like to be top of the league? Of course I like. I don't how many points it will take to finish top. Every team in the league will be very influential."

The Blues are currently on a ten match unbeaten run in the top flight but have not fared well at the Hawthorns having lost in both of their last two visits to the stadium. Last season the baggies scored a 2-1 victory over Chelsea courtesy of goals from Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie,  two players who are no longer at the club.

When the two sides met earlier in the season, it took a last gasp controversial penalty from Eden Hazard to secure a draw for Chelsea after goals from Shane Long and Stephane Sessegnon seemed to have provided an unlikely victory for Steve Clark.

However it might be very difficult for Albion to make a repeat of the antics of the past, especially with the disastrous run they are currently on. West Brom have not recorded a victory in any of their last six matches in all competitions, a streak which has driven them down to the relegation zone for the first time this season since match day four.

In their last outing Pepe Mel's side suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace. The Baggies drew their previous two matches against Merseyside outfits Everton and Liverpool and are now the side with the most draws (11) in the Premier League this season. West Brom are also the side with the least number of victories in England’s top tier football league and will be desperate to notch all three point against a very strong Chelsea side.

Chelsea could welcome back captain John Terry who after missing out on the home fixture against Newcastle due to a knock is expected to return to the starting line up against Albion. Fernando Torres who suffered a knee injury during Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Man United last month is also set to be in contention for selection for Tuesday’s match.

Nicolas Anelka will not be able to feature against his former side as he nurses a knee injury, both Jonas Olsson (hamstring) and Sessegnon (groin) have also been sidelined. Striker Thievy Bifouma could start his first match for West Brom after he scored in his first minute after coming on as a substitute in the match against Crystal Palace.
