Two points behind Arsenal, Chelsea seems to be emerging as the main contender for the Premier League crown.

Preview: Little Horse, Big Horse, Rich Horse

Jose Mourinho is either very superstitious or he simply likes to play mind games. His declaration that Chelsea is only a little horse in the title race left everyone amused.

“The title race is between two horses and a little horse that needs milk and needs to learn how to jump.” (BBC)

He indicated that Arsenal, a team that has not won a title for almost a decade now, and Manchester City, a team that his side beat using superior tactics, are the big horses. Manuel Pellegrini seems to have found Jose’s comments laughable and reminded Jose about the unlimited funds available to him according to the Guardian.

“Little but very rich. This is the team that has spent the most money in the last 10 years, the team that has spent most money this year and the team that spent the most money in the transfer window. Maybe it is a small horse if the manager thinks like that but he has shown in the last few games he has a strong team with some great players."

With Arsenal taking on Liverpool, Mourinho knows that his side must beat Newcastle. A slip by Arsenal is quite possible; Chelsea must take advantage of any such slips. Newcastle has caused the big boys a bit of trouble this season. Arsenal only managed to put one past them in a game in which Newcastle had many chances to score in their previous meeting.

Chelsea had even more trouble than their London rivals when they met Newcastle in Tyneside. They lost 2-0 as two late goals from Yoann Gouffran and Loic Remy secured a famous victory for Alan Pardew’s side. Pardew will be without Gael Bigirmana, Gabriel Obertan, Ryan Taylor, Fabricio Coloccinni and Papiss Cisse for this one. Loic Remy is suspended; Shola Ameobi and Gouffran are both doubtful.

Chelsea will be without only Fernando Torres and Marco Van Ginkel coming into this one. Can they get the job done? Will they emerge as the Big Horse this weekend?
