Steve Clarke was fired after four back to back defeats; now Pepe Mel must fight to save his side from relegation.

Preview: Can Liverpool hold on to fourth place?

For those familiar with 90’s music, if the Barclays Premier League was a song this season, it might have been the “Wind of Change” the Scorpions so passionately belted out. Arsenal topped the table until Manchester City took over in midweek. United is trying to get into a European spot. Liverpool is finally in a position to return to the UEFA Champions League, a competition they have won five times. West Brom, at the other end of the table, is holding on for survival.

Liverpool will come into this one on the back of an extremely satisfying 4-0 drubbing of local rivals Everton which not only helped boost morale further but also ensured that Everton was kept in fifth behind them. West Brom on the other hand scored three but could not win because they conceded four at the opposite end. They had the good fortune of being up by two within the first two minutes but conceded three at the other end by the 37th minute. A Youssouf Mulumbu penalty levelled matters but a Christian Benteke penalty at the other end saw Villa take the match.

At least Mel does not have too many injuries to worry about at this point. Stéphane Sessegnon and Goran Popov are both out while Nicolas Anelka is a doubt after hobbling off against Villa in midweek. Diego Lugano might be set for relegation to the bench as Gareth McAuley has returned. Mamadou Sakho, Lucas Leiva, Daniel Agger, Sebastian Coátes, José Enrique and Glen Johnson continue to be out for Liverpool. Joe Allen could return for this one.

If Liverpool does not earn any points in this match, the gap between them and Everton will reduce to only a single point. To maintain a four point gap with Roberto Martinez’s men, Liverpool must win. West Brom meanwhile could get up to as high as eleventh with a victory against the Reds.

Can Liverpool romp to a victory? Or will West Brom shock by taking the points?
