A rejuvenated Man United side will visit the Britannia Stadium where they will face league strugglers Stoke City.

Preview: United poised to maintain unbeaten streak against Potters

Last time Stoke beat Manchester United was back in 1984, which implies that the Potters have never beaten the Red Devils in the Premier League era. The defending champions have won all of their last five matches against their counterparts and are unbeaten in their last 13 against their opponents on Saturday.

The hosts have not kept a clean sheet against United since 1983 and keeping their current form in mind, only a miracle will allow them to finish the match with a point.

Stoke City’s recent form has resulted in them slipping down to the 16th spot with Mark Hughes’ side now being tipped for relegation. The Potters have lost all of their last four matches, three of these defeats have come in the league, including losses against fellow strugglers and relegation favourites Sunderland and Crystal Palace.

And with Stoke set to face the likes of Arsenal and Man City in the coming month, Mark Hughes will be hoping to scamper points somehow or the other. Even though they managed to score thrice against the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, scoring goals has been a problem for Mark Hughes side who have failed to register a goal in their last three games.

The Man United camp on the other hand is in a much more buoyant mood than their opponents. The United fans are in for a treat with Wayne Rooney set to return to the starting line-up which will see him, Van Persie and new signing Juan Mata play together for the first time in what could be a formidable trio.

The Spaniard’s arrival has lifted spirits at Old Trafford and among others defender Phil Jones has spoken on how the former Chelsea’s man arrivals has been a massive boost of confidence for the players.

“It makes an impact in the dressing room when you sign a player of that calibre. He is such a talented player on the ball. He has definitely lifted spirits in the dressing room and especially in training,” Jones said.

“We want to impress and show him that we are what we are, that we are one of the best teams to be at. He came in against Cardiff. He has done well and I am sure he will be a huge asset and fantastic player for ManchesterUnited, hopefully for many years to come.”

The 21 year old further hailed Mata’s qualities as a player especially his passing ability which Jones believes will help the Red Devils to better their position in the league table.

“He sees the pass that sometimes no-one else sees. If he continues to make them, I am sure we will soon be climbing the table.”

The Red Devils had heavily suffered in the absence of their star strikers losing five times during the period and getting eliminated from both the domestic cup competitions. However a win over Cardiff in their last outing will give them confidence as they hope to record a second consecutive league victory in their pursuit of a top four place.

United have already won twice against Stoke this season. A 3-2 win in the league in October last year was followed by a 2-0 victory over the Potters in the Capital One Cup at the Britannia Stadium.
Steven N'Zonzi will miss the home fixture against the Red Devils as he serves a one match suspension for his red card in the match against Sunderland. Robert Huth (knee), Andy Wilkinson (heel) and Matthew Etherington (calf) are also doubts for the match.

Man United on the other hand have been boosted by the probable return of central midfielders Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick who are both set to return to the squad for the trip to Stoke. Rio Ferdinand has also returned to training and will be available for selection Nemanja Vidic on the other hand will serve the final game of his three match ban.

Luis Nani who has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford has suffered an injury set back and will be out for at least a month.
