Preview: Giallorossi to show what they are made of
AS Roma begin the second half of their campaign with an unbeaten record. They are about to face their biggest test so far in the form of Juventus. The latter could open an eight-point gap at the top of the standings so the pressure is on the Giallorossi to claim a rare victory in Turin and remain in the race for the Scudetto.
“Juve are the team to beat in Italy and they are practically unbeatable because that's the way the system works in Italy,” AS Roma goalkeeper De Sanctis explained.
“Their opponents are always fearful when they face them and this is the difference Juve have in Italy compared to in Europe, where their opponents are not affected this same way.”
Juventus are still aching from their group stage exit in the UEFA Champions League. Antonio Conte and his men are determined to invest extra efforts on the domestic front and retain their Serie A crown. The last time both teams met, the Bianconeri lost 1-0 in Rome. De Sanctis warned:
“We will be putting everything we've got into creating Juve problems, then we'll see who is the best.”
At the moment, the best side is Juventus according to the Serie A standings. They have 46 points, having grabbed more wins (15) than any other side. Roma, meanwhile, have the best defence with only seven goals conceded. However, a series of draws between November and December deprived them from holding onto the summit.
