David Moyes’ side will continue their mini-revival when they square off against 12th placed Hull City on Thursday, the 26th of December.

Preview: Man United poised to score a fifth consecutive victory

The Red Devils after a slow start to the season have finally managed to get things in order and assured performances have seen them winning all of their last four matches including three in the Premier League.

An early kick off means that United have a chance to climb up to the sixth spot in the league table if they are to score a victory over their counterparts with both Tottenham and Newcastle scheduled to play their matches later in the day.

Failure to score a victory will allow ninth place Southampton to close down the gap between the two teams but keeping their recent performances in mind the Red Devils have the needed firepower to notch all three points during the midweek encounter.

With Robin Van Persie ruled out with a thigh injury United were expected to suffer in the absence of the talismanic striker. But 23 year old Danny Welbeck has filled in the position with aplomb and even though he is certainly not the same quality as his Dutch teammate, the England international has been very effective scoring three in his last three matches for the Red Devils.

Ashely Young is another player who seems to have rediscovered his form which made him such a huge star at Aston Villa. After failing to score for a lengthy period, the 28 year old grabbed two goals in the same week and will definitely be looking to keep his scoring boots on as United prepare for a busy festive week.

There might be good news for Man United on the injury front as well with the influential Michael Carrick and Robin Van Persie both expected to make a return soon.

"There are always miracles at Christmas. Let's hope there could be one for Robin or Michael Carrick. You never know,” said Moyes.

But Man United’s only major summer signing Marouane Fellaini has been ruled out for six weeks and will miss United’s entire Christmas and New Year programme. After missing the last five matches due to a back injury, the Belgian went through a wrist surgery which should keep him out for a while.

“He had his operation on Saturday morning,” said the former Everton manager.

"We just couldn't get him recovered from his back injury. We thought his back would be okay after 10 days but it wasn't getting any better, so we made a quick decision to get his wrist operated on [and] get it done quickly. We think it will be six weeks but there's a chance it will be shorter than that.”

Hull on the other hand have made a strong start to the season after earning promotion to England’s top tier league. The Tigers have lost just once in their last five matches, however three of them have been draws. Nonetheless their good form will surely give Steve Bruce’s side the motivation to score their first victory over the Red Devils in the top-flight.

The residents of KC Stadium have put up dominant performances at their home turf and since their promotion have lost just once at home. The Tigers are however unlucky to face a United side which is buoyed by confidence and Hull will have to put up a perfect performance if they are to gain anything from Thursday’s encounter.

Hull have in their ranks a number of former United players most of whom are likely to feature on Thursday. Both James Chester and Paul McShane as well as Corry Evans the brother of United star Johnny Evans are expected to line-up against their former side, the Tigers will also have in their dug out manager Steve Bruce who was won three league titles with the Red Devils.

Apart from Robin Van Persie, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, winger Luis Nani has also been ruled out of the match against Hull City. The Tigers on the other hand will be without Robbie Brady who has failed to recover from his groin injury.

Hull have lost to United in all of their last four meetings, last time the two sides met Rooney scored all the goals as the Red Devils raced through an emphatic 4-0 victory.
