Fresh from a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, Manchester United will be hoping to keep the momentum going when they face Stoke City in a Capital One Cup encounter.

Stoke City will host Manchester United in a Capital One Cup match on December 18, 2013.Preview: Moyes hoping to make it three wins in a row

The defending champions went on a four game winless run which also included back to back defeats at the hands of Everton and Newcastle before finding their way back with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Shakhtar followed by a convincing 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

Moyes will now be hoping for his side to maintain consistency in their performances something which has been missing this season. A victory against Stoke on Wednesday will allow the Red Devils to book a place for themselves in the last four of the competition which will be the first time United make it to the semi-finals of a league cup since 2010, which was the last time they won the title.

Youngster Adnan Januzaj whose sparkling performances have made him a first team regular, has spoken in support of his manager and has claimed that with time the Scot will be able to bring trophies to Old Trafford.

He will win trophies," the 18-year-old said.

"Don't forget, it is a new coach. Everything is new. You have to give it time.”

"I think he is a good coach. All the players are ready to work hard as well and everything will come."

United made it through to the last eight with victories over Liverpool and Norwich City and another victory on Wednesday will draw them closer to their fifth league cup title.

Man United legend Mark Hughes will be at the opposite dug knowing that his team has a fairly poor record against the four time league cup winners. Stoke have never beaten Man United in the Premier League, in fact last time Stoke scored a victory over the English giants was back in September 1993 in a league cup encounter when a brace from Mark Stein guided the Potters to a 2-1 victory over the Red Devils.

Stoke have only once won the league title which was back in 1972, when a 2-1 victory over Chelsea guided them to their first major trophy. Since then the Potters have twice been able to make it to the Quarter-Finals, which was most recently in 2008-2009 season when they were knocked out of the competitions by Derby County.

Stoke head into this match in fairly good form having lost just once in their last five matches and winning twice which also included a 3-2 victory over Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke will be without Robert Huth, Charlie Adam and Matthew Etherington for the important clash against United. Veteran goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen who has played in all of Stoke’s three matches in the Capital One Cup this season is expected to take his position between the posts again. Andy Wilkinson and summer signing Erik Pieters are expected to occupy the full back positions whereas fringe players Wilson Palacios, Jermaine Pennant and Brek Shea are also likely to be given a run in the first team.

Man United on the other hand have a long list of unavailable players which might force Moyes to play some of his star players on Wednesday. Robin Van Persie and Michael Carrick have been ruled out of the trip to Stoke whereas Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernandez, Nemanja Vidic and Marouane Fellaini are also major doubts for the match.

Anders Lindegaard who has just made a single appearance for the Red Devils this season is expected to start in goal whereas Anderson, Wilfried Zaha and Darren Fletcher who made his first appearance for United in nearly a year when he came on for Giggs in the match against Aston Villa are all likely to feature.
