Manchester City will look to extend their win streak to five games when they face Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

Preview: Saints hopeful of avoiding fourth consecutive loss

Mauricio Pochettino’s men started the current campaign on a strong note until the dreaded month of November began. In their last five games, the Saints have lost four times which has resulted in them sliding down to the eighth spot in the league table. After losing to London sides Arsenal and Chelsea in consecutive fixtures, Southampton were unable to notch any points in their match against Aston Villa losing 3-2 to the Villans.

Southampton will definitely be disappointed, having failed to maintain consistency in recent matches but can take confidence from the fact that the Saints are at the moment 10 points better than they were last season at this stage.

However Manchester City’s dismal away run in the league will give Southampton confidence ahead of the home fixture. The Citizen’s victory against West Brom last time was only the second time the Sky Blues have managed a victory away from home this season and they will be hoping that the win can help them overcome the voodoo.

Southampton captain Adam Lallana who has had a remarkable campaign so far has urged the cavalry to pick themselves up and has insisted that there is no reason why his side cannot record a victory over their opponents on Saturday having already done so last season.

"We've got a big game on Saturday - massive, in fact. It's not that we're not playing well. We are playing well," said the 25 year old.

"We've got to prepare and get everyone as fit as we can. It is a big month. We've proved we can beat Man City. We did last season, so let's do it again."

City’s recent run of form has allowed them to regain their place in the top four. The Citizens have won all of their last four games and have scored 19 goals in the process, this is more than Southampton have scored all season.

Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero have both been Man City’s outstanding performers so far and have eighteen goals between themselves in the league.

But it is the Argentinean’s performances which have caught the eye and his coach Manuel Pellegrini has hailed the importance of the 25 year old to the club.

"It is an important amount of goals but it is more important for the team to win," the Chilean said of Aguero's tally this season.

"That is why I changed him (against West Brom) because we have to play in less than 72 hours another game against a strong team in Southampton.

"Sergio is playing really well this season and he will continue scoring."

Pochettino will be concerned with the number of players he has on the injury table which is the second highest in the Premier League. Victor Wanyama has suffered a hairline fracture on his leg and might not take part in Saturday’s fixture, full back Nathaniel Clyne is also a doubt after damaging his pelvis during the match against Aston Villa. Schneiderlin, Davis, Do Prado and Boruc are the other absentees with Jose Fonte also declared a doubt.

For Man City, Jovetic and Silva are expected to return soon but not in time for Saturday’s encounter. Nastasic on the other hand has been ruled out till the end of the month.
