The Stadium of Light will be on fire when Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur will clash in the last fixture of the day, on December 7, 2013.

Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur will meet in the late kick-off on December 7, 2013.Preview: A game of high tempo expected

It is with a blend of disappointment and pride that the Black Cats enter Saturday’s late kick-off at home to Tottenham Hotspur. Scoring three goals against Europa League champions Chelsea is a difficult thing to achieve, so conceding one more strike to eventually lose is what hurts most.

Sunderland were on the brink of doing something great on Wednesday. If it wasn’t for Eden Hazard’s outrageous performance, the Stadium of Light would still be dazzling with euphoria by now. But the seven-goal thriller was split 4-3 with Bardsley’s 86th minute strike not enough to snatch a point for the hosts.

At Craven Cottage that night, Andre Villas-Boas guided Spurs to a vital win. Vlad Chiriches and Lewis Holtby were to thank for the visitors’ comeback triumph.

Still, Tottenham are outside the Top Four in the Premier League table. They will want to take maximum points away from Sunderland, who are rooted at the bottom. However, the challenge will certainly not be easy as the Black Cats are expected to exhibit a lot of character.

Spurs and Sunderland have very different reasons to win on Saturday. The public can anticipate an intense match.
