Fulham will begin life without Martin Jol, as Rene Meulensteen is set to make his Premier League managerial debut in the match against Tottenham.

Fulham will host Tottenham Hotspur on December 4, 2013 in the EPLPreview: Two London sides desperate for a win

Fulham and Tottenham will both be looking to put an end to their winless streaks when they meet each other at the Craven Cottage on Wednesday. The Cottagers have lost all of their last four matches in the league and five in all competitions, their antics have resulted in Fulham dropping down into the relegation zone. The inevitable sacking of Martin Jol resulted in former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen appointed as the manager of Fulham and the Dutchman is set to take charge of an English team for the first time in the match against Tottenham.

Even though the manager might have changed, the players are the same and Meulensteen will have some task at hand to motivate players who have tasted defeat in five consecutive matches. But the former Man United coach has insisted that his experience with his former club has allowed him to gain the necessary attributes to deal with such challenges.

"I am confident because of the sort of experiences I've had for so many years at Manchester United,'' Meulensteen said according to ESPN.

"I know what is required at the top end of the Premier League.  This is a different challenge with different pressure.”

The Dutchman has also claimed that fans should avoid making delusional targets and has reiterated that Fulham’s aim this season is to avoid relegation.

"This is making sure you realise the need to keep three teams below you. Don't even speak about getting into the top six, top 10, whatever it is. You need to make sure you close your ranks, and you make sure you start winning again.”

"It's a massive challenge. But when you're faced with a challenge like this it comes down to making sure you get the basic things right. You need to stay mentally strong and make sure the fans are getting behind the team.”

Tottenham on the other hand have had a very frustrating start to the Premier League campaign which has seen them score just 11 goals in 13 appearances. Spurs who were tipped for a top four place are currently ninth in the table with 21 points and are in desperate need for a win after failing to do so in their last four Premier League outings.

Villa Boas’ men responded well after their 6-0 mauling at the hands of Manchester City by recording a 2-2 draw against Manchester United, in a match they largely dominated but were unlucky to win.
However the Portuguese tactician’s job is still under jeopardy and had his team lost against Man United last time out, an AVB sacking might be very much on the cards.

The former Porto coach has failed to justify his 100 million pound spending, his acquisition of Spanish hitman Roberto Soldado for an appalling 26 million pounds has earned him a lot of criticism with the former Valencia man having managed to score just one goal from open play so far in the league.

Despite a slow start to life in England, the 28 year old who has had a good goal-scoring record in Spain has insisted that he will find his scoring boots at his new club.

"I want to score more goals than I am doing at the moment. That is why they signed me. I have been doing it all my career. I haven’t done so far here, but I am convinced I will get there,” said Soldado.

Tottenham have an advantage over their counterparts having won all of their last three matches at the Craven Cottage, however the last meeting between the two sides resulted in a victory for Fulham at the White Hart Lane, courtesy of a solitary goal from former Spurs man Dimitar Berbatov.

Sascha Riether will return for Fulham after serving his three match suspension, whereas defender Brede Hangeland and forward Dimitar Berbatov could also return after recovering from a back problem and illness respectively. Striker Hugo Rodallega and defender Matthew Briggs meanwhile will remain on the sidelines.

For Tottenham, Emmanuel Adebayor has been declared a doubt after picking up a groin injury, whereas Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose and Harry Kane have all been ruled out of Wednesday's encounter.
