The 2014 football calendar of the USWNT will begin in spectacular fashion as the Americans will welcome 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosts Canada in a friendly match.

The USWNT will play Canada's National Women Soccer Team in January 2014.The match is scheduled to take place at the Toyota Stadium in Texas on January 31, 2014. The home crowd will be looking forward to another terrific display from USA’s female soccer stars. The last meeting between the two rivals produced a 3-0 result with Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan getting the goals.

The Canadians have bad memories of their last international game at Toyota Stadium. That was back in May 2007 when they succumbed to a 6-2 loss to the United States. Neutrals will be hoping for a much closer contest this time round although records recall that the hosts have won all games in Texas.

However, odds are totally against Canada who have lost 46 out of 54 encounters against the USWNT. Tom Sermanni’s ladies are flying high with a year-long unbeaten record (13W-3D-0L). The coach told the press:

“It’s great to start the year with a game that is going to be a real test for us and a game that is always highly competitive.

“It’s a friendly game, but one that’s meaningful for both teams, and it’s an excellent first match in a year that will end with World Cup qualifying. In 2014, it will be important to play as many quality opponents as possible.”

The spotlight will be on a specific duel come January 31: the individual clash between attacking icons Abby Wambach and Christine Sinclair. Between them, these two veterans have netted an astonishing amount of 309 goals.
