St. Louis will play host to a thrilling encounter between Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday as the two side meet in an international friendly.

Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina both qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup automatically.Preview: Argentina hoping to get the job done in the absence of Leo Messi

The Barcelona man has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury and will not be able to take part in Argentina’s tricky fixture against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Javier Mascherano who will be the stand in captain in the absence of the mercurial number 10 has lamented the loss of the most important player of the team, but has insisted that the injury is not very severe and that Messi is focused on getting back as early as possible.

“Not having Messi in the team is never a positive thing,” he said.

“Leo is fine now. He has passed the stage of logical bitterness that you get when you are injured and is now focused on getting better. It is just a muscle injury, so nothing too severe.”

Alejandro Sabella’s men however suffered in their last outing against Ecuador, a match which ended in a boring stalemate. Messi’s injury has evidently hindered the Argentinean attack which is not short of quality boasting the likes of Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria and Rodrigo Palacio.

Argentina who are set to feature for the 11th consecutive time in the World Cup, secured their place in Brazil by topping the South American qualifying group. The Albiceleste have tasted defeat just once in their last 11 games and will definitely be difficult to break down.

Bosnia-Herzegovina on the other hand will be hoping to take full advantage of their debut appearance in the World Cup. The Dragons are high on confidence having finished top of the table in Group G with 25 points and thus earning an automatic place in the World Cup next year.

Even though Bosnia finished on level points with Greece, their goal difference of 24 as compared to Greece’s eight allowed them to have an advantage over their counterparts. Their massive goal difference itself is a warning for Argentina, who should not take Safet Sušić’s men lightly.

Captain Emir Spahic is confident that his team can make a statement when they face one of the strongest sides in the world right now and that their performance on the pitch against one of the contenders for the World Cup title will prove that Bosnia are capable of rubbing shoulders with the biggest teams in the world.

“We are sure we can play this game at a high level and achieve a good result,” said the 33 year old.

“Of course, we came here to do our best, we have to confirm that our qualification for the World Cup was not an accident and that we are among the best of the European teams.”

The Argentinean defence should in particular be wary of Bosnia’s prolific duo of Edin Dzeko and Vedad Ibisevic who scored 18 out of the 30 goals scored by Bosnia in the World Cup Qualifying group stages and can cause a lot of panic in the opposition half if given the room to breathe.

Safet Sušić has no injury concerns ahead of the match and is likely to field his strongest eleven. Alejandro Sabella on the other hand is likely to shuffle things around with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Rodrigo Palacio, Lucas Biglia and Pablo Zabaleta expected to return to the starting line-up after being rested in the match against Ecuador.
