Roma will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table when they welcome newly promoted side Sassuolo on the 10th of November to the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma will be at home to Sassuolo in the Serie A on November 10, 2013Preview: Roma-Sassuolo square off for the first time ever

Roma will be hoping to bounce back from their draw last time out against a team they have never faced before. Eusebio Di Francesco’s Sassuolo earned promotion to the top tier of Italian football by finishing top of the Serie B table last season, however their premier journey in the Serie A has been one to forget.

The Neroverdi side has conceded 27 goals in just 11 games and could be in for a battering from a Roma side which will be hoping to extend their lead at the top. Whereas their fragile defence is easily the worst in the league, the side has displayed some good attacking game which will give them some confidence ahead of the big match against Roma.

The line is lead by loanees Domenico Berardi and Domenico Berardi acquired from Juventus  and Genoa respectively who share eight goals among themselves.19 year old Berardi scored a wonderful hat-trick as Sassuolo scored their first away victory over Sampdoria  last week and will quite evidently be the biggest threat to Roma’s defence.

The Black and Greens have managed a shots per match ratio of 14.4 which has been the sixth best in the league, their 4.9 shots on target per game has also been one of the best in Serie A this season. For a struggling team like Sassuolo which has suffered immensely defensively, their attacking threat is quite commendable.

Roma on the other hand will be hoping to take advantage of a relatively easier fixture in a bid to maintain their top berth, after a disappointing result in Turin last time out. The league leader’s had their perfect start cut short as Torino held Rudi Garcia’s side to a 1-1 draw, but the French manager has insisted that dropping points was inevitable and has praised his players for putting up a spirited performance.

“This is football, we can’t win them all, but a draw away from home is not a negative result,” Garcia told reporters after the game.

“I liked that we played all the through in order to win. Even at the end we attacked to the final whistle and tried to get the victory.

“We must make the most of this point, as it is valuable, and be ready to win the next game at home to Sassuolo. I hope we can then break away from Juventus or Napoli, maybe even both.”

Whereas Roma did drop points in the league for the first time this season last week, the Wolves can take motivation from the fact that they are the only Italian team yet to be beaten this season. Furthermore a Juventus-Napoli match on Sunday brings more good news to Roma fans with at least one of their close rivals destined to drop points.

Roma’s leading scorer Alessandro Florenzi will lead the line once again in the absence of Gervinho and Francesco Totti who have been ruled out of Sunday’s tie. La Maggica will also be without defender Mehdi Benatia who is set to serve a one match ban.
