Preview: Flamboyant Blancos expected to improve at Vallecas
On his first full home debut for Los Blancos, Gareth Bale put in a great show with two goals and two assists. His partnership with Karim Benzema and the club’s fifth all-time goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo upfront was flawless, and led to Spanish paper MARCA branding the trio as ‘the perfect storm’.
It is this brilliance and fury in attack that Madridistas dream of witnessing week in, week out. The 10-goal thriller was a total spectacle but from Carlo Ancelotti’s point of view, it left quite a lot to worry about. If Real Madrid have found their foot upfront, the defence has many faults.
With UEFA Champions League football resuming next week, Los Blancos might use Saturday’s fixture in La Liga as an opportunity to improve their backline and defensive midfield areas.
Vallecas-based club Rayo and Real Madrid have confronted each other 28 times in La Liga. The Spanish giants’ dominance is clear with 21 wins, 73 goals scored and 29 conceded. It has also been 16 years since Rayo last claimed victory.
The latter are up against two battles. One of those is against the opposition. The other is against relegation. Indeed, Rayo Vallecano miserably occupy the 19th position in the Spanish Primera Division. They have picked up only six points from a possible 15 on home soil. Now, they are hoping to create the biggest upset of the week by defeating Los Blancos en route to their fourth win of the campaign.
