Group leaders Schalke invite English outfit Chelsea to the Veltins Arena in a Champions League encounter on Tuesday, the 22nd of October 2013.

Both blues will clash on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League, on October 22, 2013.Preview: Royal Blues to settle for a point against Chelsea

The German side have had a perfect start to their Champions League campaign notching up six points from their opening two fixtures. An opening day mauling of Steaua Bucharest was followed by a 1-0 victory over Basel a fortnight later, but Schalke’s German tactician Jens Keller has admitted that he would be content with a point when his side clashes with the English giants on Tuesday.

"Chelsea are a top side with enormous quality. We have a lot of confidence from our recent results as well as our good showings in the Champions League over the past years," said Keller.

"I have always said I want to win every game. But you have to see how the game goes, maybe a draw would be ok and we could live with that situation."

Their form in Europe has been in contrast to their stuttering run in the league where they have only won four out of the nine games played so far. An injury to star striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who has been ruled out till new year was also a major blow to the Gelsenkirchen side. However the loss has been hardly colossal, with Hungarian striker Adam Szalai rising to the occasion. The 25 year old has scored four goals in the league so far and the Chelsea defence will surely have to be wary of the physical presence of Szalai.

Also promising for Schalke is their younger players living upto their billing. Julian Draxler has been sensational for the Royal Blues so far and has scored in both the Champions League matches. 18 year old midfielder Leon Goretzka has also immensely improved and scored the equaliser as Schalke came from behind to defeat Eintracht Braunschweig 3-2 in a Bundesliga encounter.

They will be against a side which still still seems to be adapting to their new manager’s philosophy. Jose Mourinho has voiced his discontent on how things were run around in the club in the past and has made efforts to instil his own ideas in the club.

Ahead of the important encounter against Schalke the special one has not disclosed the starting line-up to his players bar John Terry who has been guaranteed a start.

"I know but the players don't know," Mourinho told reporters.

"[With] only two days in between matches, I didn't train tactically for the game so the players don't know, so it's a principle I want always to keep.”

After his blunder in the match against Cardiff, Mourinho admitted that he was considering replacing David Luiz old with former Bolton centre half Gary Cahill.

"When they don't know I don't like to say. I have to make an option for tomorrow [Tuesday] - I have to make a choice between David [Luiz] and Gary [Cahill].”

Chelsea who were stunned in their opening fixture against Basel when they surrendered their 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 to the Swiss side, made amends in their second match defeating Steaua Bucureşti 4-0.

However since their defeat to Basel back in September the Blues have been undefeated in all competitions with their recent 4-1 victory over Cardiff sending the Blues to second place in the league table.

The last time the two sides met was back in 2007 in the group stages when Chelsea came out victorious in the home fixture defeating the Gelsenkirchen club 2-0 at Stamford Bridge but had to settle for 0-0 draw at the Veltins-Arena.

Chelsea will be without inspirational full back Ashley Cole who missed both of England’s World Cup Qualifier games last week as well as Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Cardiff. Andre Schurrle on the other hands who returned from international duty with a knock is a doubt for the match.

Marco Höger who was forced off during the match against Eintracht Braunschweig is major doubt for the clash against Chelsea, but Keller will be able to recall the services of Jermaine Jones and summer signing Kevin-Prince Boateng.
