Right now, the moral in the camp of La H is very high. They have one foot in Brazil as they need only a point from the match away to Jamaica to clinch World Cup qualification. If Mexico fails to defeat Costa Rica, Honduras would seal the third and final automatic spot in the Hexagonal even with the heaviest of defeats in Kingston.
With 14 points – three ahead of fourth-placed El Tri – and one match to go, Los Catrachos would only have themselves to blame should they miss out on the 2014 World Cup. Last week's clash in San Pedro against already-qualified Costa Rica was vital for Los Catrachos and they did not bottle their chances.
A lone strike by Jerry Bengtson and a clean sheet at the other end of the field pushed them further to the promise land.
“I want to congratulate the boys of the national team for their win today,” said Honduras President Porfirio Lobo last Saturday.
“This shows that Hondurans can do it when we decide to do it. We are going to Brazil! Long live Honduras!”
Although they have nothing to play for, the Jamaicans will surely put in a fight on Tuesday night. They are looking ahead to Russia 2018 and the young players called up are aiming to fight for permanent spots in the team.
Will the spectators witness a generally dull game or a one-sided affair in favour of La H in Kingston?
