Tuesday’s Manchester City vs Wigan Athletic match in the Capital One Cup is a repeat of the 2013 FA Cup final. Watch the Citizens clash with the Latics live at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City vs Wigan is one of the most attractive matches in the Capital One Cup this week. Preview: Cup glory hunt begins for Pellegrini

This game could not have come at a better time for Manchester City. Revenge is on their mind against the side that left them trophiless last least season. Sunday’s resounding 4-1 triumph over Manchester United in the English Premier League has injected positive vibes within the camp of the Citizens.

A happy team is always easier to manage, it seems, so Manuel Pellegrini might not feel too much pressure making tactical decisions. “We are all heroes, even the players on the bench,” Aguero told the press after his brace powered City to victory in the Manchester Derby.

Pellegrini is expected to rest many of his stars this Tuesday but anyone who makes the starting XI will be tasked to give his best. The Football League Cup is one of the club’s priority this season as it presents a good opportunity to win silverware unlike the EPL or the Champions League where competition is tougher.

“I think the Capital One Cup is definitely worth taking seriously because although we have a lot of games to play,” defender Micah Richards stated on the club’s official website

“There will be first-team players who don’t feature as often and it’s a good chance for those who maybe won’t feature as often in Champions League games to play and it just keeps everyone happy.

Richards, who sees the League Cup as “a win-win situation for everyone,” is set to make his return to the squad against Wigan this Tuesday. The English defender did not play in the 2013 FA Cup final and is still hurt by how things unfolded.

“I can’t explain what happened against Wigan,” he said before concluding:

“Wigan have always played us well and have been a bit of a bogey team, but I would never say the guys weren’t up for it because we always want to win, but I just felt they wanted it more on the day.”
