Preview: Los Catrachos poised to grab another win after the Mexico victory
Suddenly, it’s looking bright for Honduras in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers. Everything went their way, last Friday. Los Catrachos benefited from a goalless draw between Panama and Jamaica and made themselves a favour by beating Mexico 2-1.
Los Catrachos lost 2-0 to Panama in the first leg of this World Cup qualifier. This saw them extend their winless streak against Los Canaleros to 29 years. It should be a different story in Tegucigalpa. Honduras last played at this venue in June 2013. They got the better of Jamaica thanks to goals from Garcia and Rojas.
There are only nine possible points to win for each team in the Hexagonal. Any twist could occur. Panama could match Honduras’ 10 points while the latter could also open a six-point gap against their opponents.
As of now, Los Catrachos occupy the last automatic qualification place in the table. Los Canaleros, meanwhile, are only a point outside the Top Four. They trail behind Mexico. If they want to maintain their dream of playing at their first ever World Cup, they must at least avoid defeat on Tuesday night.
