The RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. will host the highly anticipated women’s soccer friendly match between the U.S. and Mexico. It has been 75 days since players of the USWNT have not come together to honour their country’s colours. But with the National Women’s Soccer League Championship now over, home supporters will finally be able to see their team play for the first time since the resounding 5-0 win over Korea Republic on June 20.

Thanks to the likes of living legend Abby Wambach, young chap Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux and Christen Press, the Americans have enjoyed a great run of form in front of goal this year. Their average stands at nearly 3.3 goals per match since the beginning of the year 2013.

Thirteen of the 18 players called up for Tuesday’s friendly at home to Mexico participated in the first edition of the NWSL.

It has been almost two years since the two teams have clashed. The Mexicans will want to improve on what happened in their last meeting; they lost 4-0 in a CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. That game was played in Vancouver, Canada. The USWNT eventually booked a place in the semis before going on to conquer London at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Mexico’s record against the United States Women’s National Team is dreadful with 26 defeats and only one victory in a total of 28 matches. Looking at the fitness and momentum of the Americans, it is very likely that home supporters at the RFK Stadium will be treated to another explosive and commanding display from Hope Solo and company.
