Preview: USMNT clear favourites over Los Catrachos
Heading into the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Jurgen Klinsmann's side had won three of their previous three World Cup Qualification matches, giving his players a significant boost of confidence. With that streak, the German manager opted to bring in what some would consider a 'B' team for the Gold Cup.
B team or not, the USMNT has enjoyed a total of 16 goals, while only conceding three in the competition. Obviously Belize and Cuba did not offer them the greatest of challenges, but Honduras will certainly not lay down for the Americans.
Klinsmann's squad brushed off El Salvador on Sunday with a 5-1 victory at M&T Stadium. One should not expect a similar scoreline at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, but what should be expected is a hard fought match.
Los Catrachos go into the match underdogs, but they will not fear the Americans. They fell to them at Rio Tinto Stadium 1-0 last month, but the Yanks must also not forget that Honduras came out on top in San Pedro Sula, 2-1.
Obviously at the time of the defeat in February, there were a number of question marks surrounding Klinsmann's approach and the teams current form, but since then, things have been sorted out. The USMNT has gone on a 10-1-1 run since that defeat in February, and they have won all their matches in the Gold Cup.
With the American's scoring at will, Honduras will need to dig deep in the offensive end, in order to add to their lowly four goals in the competition. They will also need Andy Najar to once again help lift his country to an important victory.
The 20-year-old scored the winning goal against Costa Rica in the quarter-finals. Having made a name for himself in the USA before making his way to Belgium to represent RSC Anderlecht, the speedy winger could prove to be a serious headache for the American back four.
