The Roman adventure has begun for Rudi Garcia. The former Lille manager has taken the reins of the capital club and would be hoping that he does not suffer the same fate as his predecessors who in the last few seasons, have seen their reputations tarnished, thanks to the gigantic challenges coaching a club like Roma presents.
However, if he manages to sort out a few issues and makes sure he does a few things right, there is no question that he would not do well in the managerial hot-seat.
Putting a smile on Daniele De Rossi’s face
If there is one player who has been in the eye of the storm for a long time, it has to be Daniele De Rossi. The midfielder has been feeling disenchanted by his club.
Rossi was supposed to be the club captain following the retirement of Francesco Totti but it now appears that Rossi has no plans to retire at the capital club and is not really getting along too well with the supporters either.
With PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City hovering above, Garcia has to do something about Rossi. The first thing that he would need to do would be to bring back the smile on the star player’s face.
It is quite strange that the same player who does ever so well whilst donning the Italian national team jersey, has not been putting a lot of effort in his performances for the Lupi and that is something Garcia has to settle. De Rossi does not feel loved anymore and the manager has to do something about it.
Bringing consistency to the performances
The problem for Roma for the past three seasons has been inconsistency. In the last three seasons, Giallorossi have had five different coaches: Ranieri, Montella, Luis Enrique, Zeman and Andreazzoli. Each time, the story has been the same; Roma, a team capable of the best and the worst.
More often than not, Roma have put together three consecutive wins, only to collapse in the fourth game. This has been the real problem for the team and Garcia needs to change the whole mentality of the side.
Have Totti by his side
Everyone knows that in Rome, there is only one captain, who goes by the name of Francesco Totti. The Italian legend has been at the club for 20 years and for any coach, who has arrived at the club, has to agree with the master of the house. Totti has a huge influence on the dressing room and if he is happy everyone’s happy and if he is not, the manager is in for a tough time, something many former coaches would agree to.
Therefore, Garcia will have to be really smart and will have to give Totti the respect and importance he deserves. Garcia cannot build his team around the former Italy international but his opinion will come in very handy.
Win the derby and win the fans
Derby della Capitale is what defines the seasons of Roma and Lazio. Both teams and their fans love to hate each other. In recent times, Lazio have got the better of the Romans. Last season, Lupi lost the Coppa Italia final to the enemy and Garcia needs to have his name on the derby for sure. And if he manages to win the derby this season, Garcia will earn the love and respect of Roman fans.
