The Manchester United striker has been put to his place by David Moyes and Jose Mourinho has used the whole situation to his advantage by offering the troubled striker a way out.
Angry, confused, and mistreated! Those would be exactly the kind of feelings that Rooney would be going through at the moment. While the media has spoken about the angry and confused part very thoroughly, it has been Jose Mourinho who has covered the last part pretty aptly.

Jose Mourinho who is the master of words and manipulation has used the national team card to inch closer towards getting a player he has been talking up for weeks now.

Mourinho said: “If Wayne is a second choice for Man United, then the national team will be affected“.

Soon after that, Chelsea placed an official bid on the table for the troubled Manchester United star who simply cannot digest the fact that he will have to play second fiddle to Robin Van Persie as a striker. Playing back-up to the Dutchman is not what the Englishman has in mind and could be the only reason why the player leaves Old Trafford this summer.

Ever since the information of Rooney’s ‘feelings’ was leaked, media has been having a field day and the day got even better once Chelsea placed an official bid for RVP’s back-up.

It appears that whether he stays or leaves, Rooney will not have a lot of fans left in Manchester. Even those fans who stood by him after he submitted a transfer request, would now be wondering if it is really worth backing a player who sulked his way through the last few months of last season.

In his first transfer window as a United manager, David Moyes is not really having a great time and to make matters worse, Chelsea have emerged as the third actor in this soap opera.

Going back to Jose Mourinho’s assessment of the implications for the England national team, it remains to be seen if Rooney will actually fit in the Chelsea system. Moreover, Chelsea have plenty of options in offense.

Rooney wants to play as a lone striker but in Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba, The Blues have strikers who can score goals. And if one thinks of Rooney playing as an attacking midfielder, Mourinho already has the likes of Eden Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Kevin De Bruyne.

Sure Rooney might be way better than most of these players but Chelsea will definitely have to ship out some of their players in order to bring the England star to Stamford Bridge.

Although Moyes might not hand over RVP’s duties to him, the former Everton manager still believes that Rooney will have a major role to play next season and it is only a question of how the new Manchester United man can manage to convince his star player.

For now, regardless of the bid that was placed and regardless of the players that were reportedly offered, Wayne Rooney is still a Manchester United player and one cannot rule out the fact that he might eventually be convinced to stay at the club.

If not, United will have a horrendous task to replace a player who is of tremendous quality and has done ever so well for the club in the past.
