Andre Villas-Boas probably did not expect his first campaign as Tottenham Hotspur manager to be so eventful. The season seemed to be running smoothly until fans were yet again disappointed as North London rivals Arsenal leaped above them to steal the lucrative fourth spot in order to qualify for UEFA Champions League football in 2013-14.
AVB’s men will be full of determination following two consecutive years of narrowly missing out on Europe’s most prestigious competition. Fans will be delighted that star-man Gareth Bale looks likely to remain at White Hart Lane whilst FIFA Confederations Cup winner Paulinho joins the ranks as an all round midfielder. Adding to that this summer is the news of exciting winger Nacer Chadli who signed from Dutch side Twente. The club will be eager to bolster their attack with a move for Spanish international Roberto Soldado on the cards in the quest of securing UEFA Champions League football next season.
Tottenham begin their campaign with two London derbies and fixtures against both of the Premier League’s Welsh sides in their first five games. The most appealing sees Spurs travel to the Emirates on September 1 to face Arsenal in what promises to be a heated affair following last season’s regretful finale. The North London derby is live on Sky Sports 1/HD.
The trickiest month for Spurs is in March which sees five games sandwiched within four weeks along with three of the top six teams featuring against the Lilywhites including away fixtures to AVB’s previous employers Chelsea before visiting Liverpool at the end of the month. The second test against Arsenal at White Hart Lane comes up in between trips to Stamford Bridge and Anfield.
