With the season rapidly coming towards its end, Arsenal know that they must continue with their run of good form and for that, Tomas Rosicky is of immense importance to the Gunners
If there is one player at Arsenal who has never divided opinion, it is 32-year-old Tomas Rosicky. Signed from a then-financially crippled Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2006, the Czech Republic international has been a vital part of Arsenal ever since.

Regardless of the many injury problems he has faced during his time in London, you will hardly come across any pundit criticising the midfielder’s approach towards the game. Vibrant, energetic, robust, the 32-year-old also has a penchant for the spectacular – something that sets him apart from most of his Gunners teammates.

Even at the age of 32 and with his injury worries that might never leave him, Rosicky is exactly the kind of player who makes the difference for Arsene Wenger when most of his more highly-thought-of players start fading away.

In the past two campaigns, he has proven to be a very valuable member of the starting eleven, especially during the latter phases of the campaigns. This time around, it is no different as the attacking midfielder’s return from injury has seen him do exactly what the younger players at the club should be doing on a regular basis.

After missing out half of the season owing to an injury he picked up during the European Championships last summer, the attacking midfielder gives the impression of a man on a mission. For Arsenal, Champions League football is vital to say the least. Last season, Rosicky played a huge role in helping the club rally towards UCL qualification last season and now, the Prague-born midfielder is giving all the right signs to repeat this feat again.

When available, Rosicky always adds a new dimension to Arsenal’s overall game play. That was quite evident in Wenger’s side’s win over West Brom. The Czech Republic international delivered his performance of the season and scored both goals.

After that, the midfielder was forced to miss out games against Norwich and Everton. The former Dortmund man was particularly missed during his side’s goalless draw at home to Everton. In that game, Arsenal were not as persuasive as they should be. The score-line might have had been different had the Czech been on the field.

Apart from being a creative and dynamic player, Rosicky has one thing that most of his teammates clearly lack. Urgency is something that often eludes most of the Gunners. This has been the main reason why Wenger’s men have never really been able to properly kill games that they should be winning easily. For that, it is essential to have Rosicky in the midfield.

In the last two games, Jack Wilshere’s influence has been minimal to say the least. The England international has a great future at the club but now is not the time to test him to the limits like Liverpool did with Michael Owen when he was the golden boy of English football. The midfielder has only recently returned from injury and it would be naïve to put the burden of Champions League qualification on his young shoulders.

Furthermore, with Rosicky once again showing that he is in a rich vein of form, Arsene Wenger should rest Wilshere and let Rosicky anchor the midfield. The Czech Republic international’s experience is of immense importance to the team’s chances of a top four place and should be used.

With just five games left and Fulham waiting, it’s time to let a member of the old guard carry the burden and let the protégé get a breather.
