FC Bayern München might be crowned German champions this weekend when they take on Eintracht Frankfurt.
The equation is simple; if Bayern beats Frankfurt, they will undoubtedly be crowned German champions this week. In the event that Bayern does not win, if Dortmund does not win over Augsburg, the Bavarians will be crowned champions (they will have to wait for May to get the trophy nonetheless). Bayern is coming into this one on the back of an accomplished 2-0 win over Juventus.

Eintracht Frankfurt has had a rather indifferent 2013 following a brilliant first half of the season. They have managed to stay fifth due to the ineptitude of other teams rather than their own brilliance. Frankfurt finally won a match last weekend when they beat bottom side Greuther Fürth 2-3. The win came at a good time because Frankfurt had looked rather lost at times in 2013 until that game, including a 3-0 defeat to Dortmund in which BVB played most of the match with ten men.

Bayern was simply brilliant to watch against Hamburger SV last week. The goals they scored were rather simple ‘textbook’ ones. Claudio Pizarro of course got on the score sheet four times while Arjen Robben struck twice. A total of nine goals rolled past Rene Adler on the day including one each from Xherdan Shaqiri, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribery. The Bavarians did concede twice on the opposite end but only Matthias Sammer really took notice of that.

Frankfurt meanwhile went behind to Fürth last weekend but recovered and struck thrice through Takashi Inui, Stefan Aigner and Alexander Meier. Meier’s goal was his first after 800 goalless minutes. Inui, who started the season brightly, has faded in 2013. The goal will surely help his confidence. Sebastian Jung, Carlos Zambrano, Inui and Meier all avoided yellow cards in that match. They would have been suspended for this fixture otherwise.

For Bayern, a horrific muscle injury early on in the encounter against Juventus virtually ended Toni Kroos’ season. The midfielder is set to be out for six to eight weeks. He has had a superb season so far; the fans will surely miss watching his wonderful passes and his powerful shots. Fortunately, the depth of Bayern’s squad means that the intelligent play-maker’s absence can be compensated for. This injury is a chance for Robben or Shaqiri to make a claim for a spot in the starting eleven.

Frankfurt has averaged 54 percent possession in the league this season. Bayern also likes to dominate possession. The reverse meeting between the sides was rather cagey. Franck Ribery scored in the first half while Bastian Schweinsteiger earned his side a penalty in the second. David Alaba converted the penalty to guide Bayern to a 2-0 win. Frankfurt had missed a few good chances, especially headed ones, in that match.

Will Bayern win the Bundesliga this weekend?

Prediction: Frankfurt 1-3 FC Bayern
