Two of the Premier League’s hottest properties will go head to head this weekend, as Luis Suarez’s Liverpool welcome Gareth Bale’s Tottenham to Anfield this Sunday.
Both the players have been in blistering form this season, especially this year and are without a shadow of doubt, two of the most inform players currently.

Both the players have been instrumental in any kind of success their clubs have achieved this season. Take last weekend for example, a ruthless Liverpool side, ran rampant on strugglers Wigan Athletic beating the side 4-0. The victory was highlighted by a brilliant performance from their talisman Luis Suarez who struck a hat-trick, guiding his side to an easy victory.

Whereas Bale on the other hand struck the opener, as Spurs faced bitter rivals Arsenal last Sunday. He repeatedly caused menace in the Arsenal half and Spurs emerged victorious in one of their most important games of the season.

Even though Spurs are 12 points better than the Reds in the league and have made promising strides in the European competitions, there is no way we can separate the two superstars from one another, who have been in emphatic form.

Before we continue with the analysis of both the players, it is very important to realize that Bale operates mainly as a winger or an attacking midfielder, whereas Suarez has primarily functioned as a striker this season, but at times operates in a free role behind the striker or on the flanks.

Suarez is now top of the scorer charts in the league, he toppled Manchester United’s Robin Van Persie from the spot after his brilliant hat-trick against Wigan. In his 27 games, the Uruguayan has scored 21 goals and assisted four other and boasts an impressive record of a goal every 115 minutes, slightly better than that of Persie who averages a goal every 117 minutes.

Bale on the other hand in his 24 games in the league, has scored 16 and assisted one, and averages a goal every 132 minutes. Once again we have to appreciate the fact that Bale operates as an attacking midfielder, and his goals per minute ratio is thus very impressive. What is not impressive however is the number of assists he has made and Suarez easily has an upper hand over his counterpart here.

Liverpool will have a monster to contain, as Bale is currently in the form of his life and has been exceptional since the New Year. He has scored seven goals in the league this year, in as many games and averages a goal every 90 minutes. He has been very effective in front of the goal, and out of the 36 shots he has made 19.44% have reached their target. He has also created 15 chances for his teammates this year, but has not managed a single assist.

If there is one player who can match Bale’s impressive record this year, it’s surely Liverpool’s leading light Luis Suarez. The former Ajax man has been in breathtaking form, scoring eight goals from as many appearances. Of the 29 shots on goal, an impressive 27.59% have passed the goal line for Luis Suarez. He has coupled the goals with two assists and has created 25 chances for his teammates.

Given their immense attacking abilities, both Bale and Suarez are not required to perform much defensive duties, however both men have largely contributed to this aspect of the game too.

Liverpool try to press high up the pitch, and Suarez performs his duty really well by allowing defenders minimal time on the ball. Spurs also try to play a pressing game higher up the midfield, to win possession and formulate attacking moves.

Luis Suarez has won a massive 421 50-50 ground contests against oppositions more than any other player in the league, whereas Bale has managed to win 220 of them. Bale on the other hand has been more effective in aerial duels, and has won 99 of the aerial contests compared to Suarez who has won only 36.

Apart from contesting for the ball higher up the pitch, both men have also contributed to the defensive third making vital interceptions to prevent threatening opposition moves. Suarez has managed to win possession 11 times in the defensive third, compared to Bale who has done so on 31 occasions.

From the above analysis we can see, that both men have made all round contributions to their sides and it’s not just their goal scoring abilities which make them so dangerous.

It is quite evident that both men will have a major influence on the result at Anfield on Sunday. Liverpool as the home side, with the kop giving them their backing in full volume, are expected to be more threatening and have a larger share of possession.

Suarez with his excellent abilities to win and maintain possession will easily be the biggest threat to Spurs. In addition to this the Liverpool man is dangerous on the ball, and with his mesmerising dribbling abilities, his effectiveness in the final third and his accuracy in front of the goal, he will repeatedly torment the Tottenham defence.

As for Bale, his abilities currently know no limits, he is not just dangerous on the ball but makes excellent off the ball movements to cause panic in the final third. He is capable of striking the ball powerfully from distance, which makes it impossible to defend against him since he can virtually score from anywhere on the pitch.

It is interesting to see how both players have seen a transformation in their roles in the team, both men have operated in the attacking midfield role recently lingering behind the main striker and are allowed to roam freely all over the pitch. This allows them to constantly link up with almost every player on the pitch, and also provides them a clear sight of goal so they can put the ball in the net as soon as the opportunity arises.

Both men have at times singlehandedly earned their sides vital points, and will be aiming to do the same this Sunday.

If Bale manages to get the winning goal for Spurs, it will almost guarantee them a top four spot ahead of their London rivals.

On the other hand if Suarez succeeds in doing so, he will provide Liverpool a huge boost to achieve something respectable this season.

Both men have been persistently linked to top European clubs, only time will tell where their future lies but it is certain that both men have very bright futures ahead of them.
