A certain Ronaldo, nicknamed R9, haunted Manchester United the last time Real Madrid played at Old Trafford. Can Cristiano, also known as CR7, emulate the iconic Brazilian's feat?
Cristiano Ronaldo’s form in 2013 has gone up a new level. The Portuguese winger is widely considered as the most complete player in world football due to his ability to score with the head and both feet, from open play and set-pieces.

During the last five days, his excellence has helped Real Madrid to down Barcelona’s momentum. In the Copa del Rey semis on February 26, Cristiano Ronaldo hit a brace, taking his tally to eight goals in his last six matches at the Camp Nou. This inspired Los Blancos to a 3-1 victory against their bitter rivals.

Ronaldo was not finished on Saturday. He came off the bench to make more shots on goal (6) than the entire Barcelona team (5) in the last 33 minutes of El Clasico in La Liga. He revived Real Madrid’s play, tested goalkeeper Valdes with stunning free-kicks and left the Santiago Bernabeu in great mood as captain Sergio Ramos clinched a late winner.

Three weeks after rescuing a 1-1 draw for the Spanish giants against Manchester United in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Last 16, Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford. Spanish paper Marca portrayed the 28-year-old as ‘Hulk’ – not the one in Zenit, but the one that has tormented Barcelona recently.

The last time Los Blancos played at the Theatre of Dreams was 10 years ago in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The night was a happy one for the visitors who lost 4-3 but qualified for the semis with a 6-5 result on aggregate.

Former Real Madrid boss Vicente del Bosque, who guided Real Madrid past Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2003, recalled the feat of a certain Ronaldo, Brazil’s iconic R9. World Cup and European Championship winning coach Del Bosque told Marca:

“Everyone remembers the three goals by Ronaldo. What an ability he has to score! The Brazilian was a very positive player, one of those people who are happy just playing football.”

This season, Cristiano Ronaldo has seven goals in the UEFA Champions League like Galatasaray’s Burak Yilmaz. He is on course to succeeding four-time competition top scorer Lionel Messi.

March 5 will be an emotional day for Cristiano Ronaldo but will the Theatre of Dreams keep or spit out the former Manchester United number 7 star of the UEFA Champions League?
