Currently the hottest property in Europe, Tottenham star Gareth Bale is attracting much interest from top European football clubs. Real Madrid are one of the interested parties, who will try to unite the Welsh star with his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gareth Bale has been in emphatic form this season and has single handily guided Spurs, to the third spot in the Barclays Premier League. He has incredibly scored eight goals in the last six games, the last one coming against West Ham which was a powerful drive from 30 yards out. The goal did not just win Tottenham three very vital points, it also sent them ahead of Chelsea to the third spot in the league.

The winger has been heavily linked to Spanish outfit Real Madrid, with former Los Blanocs owner Roman Calderon urging his team to sign the player at any cost.

But can Ronaldo and Bale really fit in the same squad?

To begin with Bale certainly cannot play in his preferred left wing role, which is currently occupied by the best left winger in the world; Cristiano Ronaldo. He has been quite ineffective when played on the right and will still have to compete with Di Maria. As for Bale operating as a left back, it will be a waste of his immense attacking talents and he will still face a lot of competition, with Marcelo and Coentrao already rivalling for one spot.

However with the press heavily linking him to the Castillian club, we can certainly deduce, that there is a lot of truth to the rumours circuiting around and the Welshman might very well end at Madrid by summer.

But what about Ronaldo will he still be at the club by then?

Ronaldo reportedly refused to sign a contract extension with Madrid and has planned to see out his contract which ends in two years, which implies that the 80 million pound star could virtually leave the club for free by 2015. Ronaldo’s reluctance to sign an extension, may relate to the fact that the Portuguese star has made his decision on leaving the club once he has achieved his objectives; probably to help Madrid win their tenth Champions League title.

It is a possibility that Madrid’s pursuance of Bale is not to pair him with Ronaldo, but to replace him. This might also explain their willingness to spend a hefty sum on the Welshman, with his price quoted as high as 80 million pounds.

It will be a huge blow to Madrid, if they eventually do lose Ronaldo be it this summer or the next. Gareth Bale is an emerging superstar, but to ask him to fill in Ronaldo’s boots would be too much pressure for the young Spurs star. However it will do wonders for the winger, if he can get the opportunity to develop under his idol Cristiano Ronaldo. Madrid will massively improve their title credentials,if they get the two superstars to play together and it will definitely be one mouth watering combination every football fan will look forward to.
