Barcelona could be back to upset Arsene Wenger’s project at Arsenal in no time at all. That is, if the Catalan club seriously tries to grant Dani Alves’ wish of signing Jack Wilshere.
Gooners are desperate to see the club resurrect from its on-going troubles and become what it was a decade ago: a genuine title contender.

Their realistic target in the English Premier League is a top four finish while the dream of lifting the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup vanished at the expense of Bradford and Blackburn Rovers respectively.

Arsenal’s barren run of trophies will stretch to eight years should they fail to win the UEFA Champions League this season. The task at hand against Europe’s best teams is obviously tough but so is the pressure from the media on Arsene Wenger’s back.

The French coach has lost numerous stars down the years – Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie to name a few. English gem Jack Wilshere appears to be the Gunners’ new jewel. The 21-year-old midfielder is yet to lay hands on silverware since commencing his professional career with Arsenal back in 2008.

While he may be wondering how long it could take to reward his remarkable performances with cup glory, Barcelona could seduce him at the fury of Arsene Wenger. Dani Alves made a strong suggestion during an encounter with the press on Monday. Speaking about Jack Wilshere, the Brazilian defender who witnessed England’s victory over the Selecão in friendly earlier in February, declared:

“He is a great player whom we have met playing against Arsenal and without doubt he can reach the height of the players we have here at Barcelona, like Xavi and Iniesta.

“He has a lot of quality and a great personality. If I was given the chance to choose, he is a player that I would sign for Barcelona.”

It would take some serious commitment to Arsenal for Wilshere to resist such claims that he could reach the status of these two World Cup legends - Xavi and Iniesta - if only he decides to leave for the Camp Nou.

The summer transfer window is four months away from opening. Will it see Jack Wilshere emulate Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song who left the Emirates in search of trophies at Barcelona? Arsene Wenger’s fight to build his youth project successfully may suffer another blow…
