Goals from Ryan Giggs and Robin Van Persie sealed United’s victory over Everton, stretching their lead over rivals Manchester City by 12 points.
Manchester United are now on the course to winning their 20th Premier League title and this time they are likely to achieve it without much opposition. United are top of the table with 65 points, 12 above second placed Manchester City with only 12 games to go. The Red Devils now have the luxury of diverting all their attention towards their Champions League fixtures, the first of which is a mouth watering tie away from home when Ferguson’s men will lock horns against Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Following the first leg against Madrid, United have an easy run of Premier League fixtures the first one against bottom placed QPR and then a home tie against Norwich. Both the ties should be a mere walk in the park and United will be looking to further extend their lead. United are yet to face City, Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League, however even if they lose all three of their crucial ties, they can still walk away with the title. If by some miracle United do manage to drop 12 points in the next 12 games, they have a superior goal difference to their title rivals City and will still be unaffected.

What is scarier is the fact that United seem to get stronger with every passing game. At first it was Van Persie who was terrorising defences and scoring goals for fun. Rooney has now joined the party and has scored 6 goals in his last 6 appearances for the Red Devils. With Captain and star defender Nemanja Vidic back in the side and getting stronger ever passing game, things can only get better for Manchester United.

While Manchester United have been on a roll, prospective title challengers Manchester City and Chelsea have experienced a slump. United’s fierce rivals Manchester City have lost one and drawn two of their last 3 matches. Their star players have failed to consistently deliver this season, with key player such as Kun Aguero unable to repeat their performances of last season. While their reliable goalkeeper Joe Hart, has lost the trust of his manager Roberto Mancini with below average performances this season.

While Chelsea on the other hand, have been on an equally disappointed form. Their last 5 matches have yielded only one victory, the Blues are currently 3rd, 16 points behind leaders Manchester United. Chelsea like Manchester City have been highly inconsistent this season and are unlikely to provide any sort of opposition to Manchester United.

The Red and White ribbons might be tied on the Premier League crown sooner than expected. United will however take nothing for granted, with memories of last season still fresh in mind when United surrendered an eight point lead to City and lost the title on the last day in the last minute of the competition. But it is unlikely that they will make a repeat of their mistakes. The United side has been much more clinical and much more determined than they were last term and it might be just a matter of a few more weeks before they finally clinch their 20th Premier League title.
