Manchester United will be hosting Liverpool on Sunday in the English Premier League and Alex Ferguson has taken his time to describe the managerial post at Anfield as a challenging one.

Alex Ferguson lifting the 2010/11 English Premier League title - his 12th and Manchester United's 19th.Fergie has been at Old Trafford since 1986, lifting the league title on 12 occasions. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s last triumph dates from 1990. The Merseyside Reds’ title-drought in this competition is set to extend itself this year as they seat 21 points off the summit – currently occupied by Manchester United.

Since replacing legend Kenny Dalglish, ex-Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has so far struggled to straighten Liverpool’s rough path to success. They have drawn seven of their 21 English Premier League matches and lost six times already.

Speaking to the press in the build up to both teams’ 22nd league match of the 2012/13 campaign, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson commented on Brendan Rodgers’ difficult job at Anfield, stating:

“It is difficult to say. When a young manager goes to Liverpool it is a challenge. Kenny Dalglish going back was a challenge for him.”

Fergie added a statement susceptible of embarrassing Liverpool fans.

“Anyone going to that club faces a challenge because they haven’t won the League for 20-odd years,” he said.

“It is a long time for a club like Liverpool. So for anyone it is a challenge. And it is difficult to measure any Liverpool side at the moment with Liverpool sides of the past.”

Manchester United will be looking to apply more pressure on Liverpool in Sunday’s super clash at Old Trafford.
