At the moment, being a Borussia Mönchengladbach fan is rather unpleasant. Gladbach, despite the talent available to them, is failing on each platform rather spectacularly.
Last week, Bremen absolutely thumped them 4-0. Bremen is nowhere near the top of the Bundesliga table. Thus, Gladbach lost to a very inconsistent side. They are in trouble in this Europa League campaign as they only have one point to their name following the first two matches. They play the team at the top of the table this week, Marseille.

Marseille has four points to their name with a win and a draw. Their league form has let them down though. They lost to Troyes 1-0. Before the international break, Valenciennes absolutely thumped them 4-1. Gladbach meanwhile was thumped in the Europa League.

Fenerbahce took apart Gladbach 2-4. Granit Xhaka, Alvaro Dominguez and the plethora of new talent purchased to cover for the sales of Dante and Marco Reus as well as the free transfer of Roman Neustadter have not settled in. It seems that Lucien Favre has to change the system his side uses.

The previous system he used revolved around the talents of current Dortmund man Marco Reus. Perhaps, now, the system should revolve around the talents of Patrick Hermann or even around the new Dutch striker Luuk de Jong. Gladbach was supposed to be challenging for a European spot and they do have the players to do so.

However, their form is really relegation form to be blunt. They take on a Marseille side that can be absolutely violent like counterparts Lille. Extremely physical matches don’t suit Gladbach. Marseille is of-course the quarterfinalists of last season’s Champions League. Gladbach’s league rivals Bayern took them out 4-0 on aggregate.

Gladbach is set to struggle again. Marseille should take all three points.

Prediction: Gladbach 0-2 Marseille
