Reading’s return to the top flight has not panned out the way it could have. They sit eighteenth in the table and their next opponent is Liverpool.
Liverpool’s fortunes in their last three matches were mixed. They took out a Norwich side which had been bleeding goals 2-5. They then lost at home to Udinese 2-3. They followed that up with an almost expected 0-0 draw with Stoke. Liverpool currently is transitioning from one style of play to another. They have left directness behind and are now focused on controlling possession and moving forward.

Brendan Rodgers’ side sits eighteenth in the table. They have already taken on two of the ‘big boys’ in Manchester United and Arsenal. They controlled parts of the game against Arsenal. Their play in the final third was not sharp enough and Arsenal cruelly punished them on the break. United might have been lucky to beat Liverpool; however it must be said that the Merseyside team failed to take advantage during their periods of domination.

Reading’s last three games in all competitions include one win and two draws. The win came over QPR, 2-3. The draws were collected in the Premier League against Newcastle and Swansea. Everyone is ready to go as far as the clash at Anfield is concerned except Adam Federici and Mikele Leigertwood. Leigertwood might be available though.

Liverpool’s injury list is quite lengthy. Lucas Leiva, Martin Kelly and John Flanagan have already been ruled out of this match. Fabio Borini will be out for approximately three months following his recent injury blow while on international duty. Andre Wisdom and Jose Enrique are both doubtful for Saturday.

Liverpool currently sits in an embarrassing position in the table. They have played one more game than Reading and yet sit only in fourteenth. Rodgers’ plan will take time to succeed as no team learns to play possession based football overnight. Liverpool will need to be sharp in the final third especially considering the fact that their lack of sharpness in the penalty area has cost them many points.

Possession football is great to watch only when it is implemented properly. Making use of the possession is the most important aspect rather than the amount of possession in a match. Liverpool will have to work hard to win.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-0 Reading
