Manchester City were dealt a big blow very early into the 2012-13 campaign when Argentine striker Kun Aguero went down with a knee injury. The man who helped bring the EPL title back to the blue side of Manchester was now laying on the pitch in pain to the disbelief of on looking fans.
Fortunately for Aguero, City fans and Manchester City themselves, Aguero’s injury appears to be less worrying than originally expected. After looking at multiple angles of the play, many feared he had serious ligament damage which could have caused him to miss upwards of three or four months.

Aguero quickly put City fans at ease after taking to his Twitter account to tell everyone that he was doing better than expected.

“The studies I had done revealed there’s no significant injury but it was a very tough hit to my knee. Tomorrow, the physicians will evaluate the time it will take for me to recover.”

“I can’t muster the words to thank (you) for your concern and, with this much support, I’ll probably get back up on my feet soon.”

Despite fighting back from a deficit to newly promoted Southampton, Manchester City showed to still have some work to do on the defensive side of the ball if they are to re-claim the title.
Micah Richards did not feature in City’s first match in the new season, but Zabaleta has proven to be a more than adequate replacement in the ‘Citizen’s’ back four. Kompany and Lescott as always took care of the affairs in the center of the defense, but they will need help from those around them if they are going to lead city to the title again.

David Silva proved last season that he can play with the best of them, but his start to the new campaign was a distant image of the Silva we were used to seeing last season. A horrid penalty and a miss from seven or eight yards out brought back memories of Fernando Torres’ struggles when he arrived at Stamford Bridge.
Silva will need to make sure he is demanding the ball in the midfield and he will need to dictate the pace of the match. With his struggles against Southampton, Samir Nasri stepped up to the plate and controlled the affairs for the champions. With Silva not at his best, City could well struggle to keep the ball which would lead to their back line being exposed to multiple counter-attacks.

Two other key figures for City with Aguero out will be Dzeko and Carlos Tevez. The Bosnian striker has been part of a rotation in the City front line, but he will now look to claim his spot with the absence of Aguero. While it will be very difficult to convince Mancini that he should start over Kun, the Bosnian will at least have an opportunity to show the Italian manager that he deserves a starting position.

Carlos Tevez on the other hand has turned himself into an almost automatic member of the City offense. His ability to take on defenders and create offense for his teammates is just as important as David Silva’s contributions to the team. The Argentine who at one point wanted to force his way out of Manchester has now re-emerged as the player he once was.

With a happy Carlos Tevez, an orchestrating David Silva, a goal scoring Dzeko and a trouble-free Balotelli, Manchester City should not struggle to win matches during Aguero’s absence.
