The Uruguayan striker made his eagerly-awaited debut for the Porto Alegre outfit but couldn't help his new side claim the three points.
Diego Forlan couldn't inspire Internacional to victory in his official debut for the Porto Alegre club, as they fought out a goalless draw with Vasco da Gama at the Beira-Rio stadium on Saturday.

Forlan, who was named the most valuable player of the 2010 World Cup, put on a good display and could have found the back of the net in the 37th minute but he fired the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.

The former Inter Milan striker was very active, and got into good goal-scoring positions, but it was clear that he still isn't at his ideal physical condition. In the 68th minute Forlan was replaced by Marides.

Inter, whose key striker Leandro Damiao is at the London Olympic Games with the Brazilian national team, remain in fifth-place of the Brasileiro, while Vasco are in second-place, only one point behind league leaders Atletico Mineiro, who have been in sensational form since the arrival of Ronaldinho from Flamengo.

Due to the increasingly strong Brazilian economy, the local competition has attracted a number of big names, whether they are Brazilians returning from Europe or players from other countries.

While Inter have purchased the likes of Forlan and Juan this season, other teams have also made a number of interesting signings, like Botafogo, who captured Clarence Seedorf from AC Milan and Copa Libertadores champions Corinthians, who snapped up Paolo Guerrero and Juan Manuel Martinez.

Due to high wages, a desirable lifestyle and a top-notch competition, the Brazilian league has become an attractive destination for footballers.
