The accomplished Dutchman failed to make an impact in his first game in a Botafogo shirt.
Clarence Seedorf's much-awaited debut in a Botafogo shirt ended in disappointment, as his new side were beaten 1-0 by Gremio in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

Seedorf, who recently joined the club from Italian giants AC Milan, was greeted by a vocal 35,000 crowd at the Engenhao stadium, but despite all of the excitement, the Dutchman failed to live up to the expectation.

The only goal of the match was scored by Bolivian international Marcelo Moreno three minutes into the second half, when he fired the ball home from a difficult angle following good lead-up work from Elano and Ze Roberto.

Seedorf, who struggled to find his top form, was restricted to long-range attempts on goal, mainly from dead-ball situations.

In the 75th minute Seedorf was replaced by striker Rafael Marques, as Botafogo looked to add some punch to their attack.

In Sunday's other important games, Fluminense edged Ponte Preta 2-1, Cruzeiro beat Flamengo 1-0, Sao Paulo won 2-0 at Figueirense and Internacional thumped Atletico-GO 4-1.

Meanwhile, on Saturday league leaders Atletico Mineiro came from behind to thrash Sport Recife 4-1.

Former World Player of the Year, Ronaldinho, scored Atletico's second goal, when he fired the ball home following a swift counter-attack.

Atletico Mineiro lead the Brasileiro with 28 points after eleven rounds, two points more than Vasco da Gama, with 26, and three points more than Fluminense, with 25.
