Germany are playing former world champions Italy in the second Euro 2012 semi-final match. The Germans are aiming to take advantage of the Azzurri’s lack of efficiency in front of goal.
Bayern Munich and DFB Eleven captain Phillip Lahm revealed at the pre-match press conference:

“We watched the game at our hotel and England were comprehensively outplayed. It should never have reached penalties, the Italians only had themselves to blame for allowing the game to reach that point.”

Indeed, Italy enjoyed 68 per cent of ball possession. They had an 89 per cent pass accuracy compared to England’s 73. The Italians also produced 36 shots but only 8 of those were on target while 13 were blocked.

“They were very wasteful in front of goal. If that had been Germany, we would have put England out of their misery during the 90 minutes,” Phillip Lahm boldly stated.

“The only thing you can say is you must admire the way England managed to hang in and refused to go home quietly.”

Germany are on a run of 15 consecutive victories in competitive international football. They are potential UEFA Euro 2012 finalists and pre-tournament favourites.

They will face Spain on Sunday if they defeat Italy in the semis on Thursday night.
